Real Estate question

Hello Friends in the Fort,

I hope I am able to clearly explain my inquiry. I know real estate laws and rules vary by state, but this property is in Indiana. If someone owns their home and said person knows another person who would buy that house directly from them (above what the market is currently quoting if that matters at all) do you still need to obtain a broker to liaison the deal? Is it than just a matter of a deed transfer MLS real estate? Perhaps this is an oversimplified way to look at it, but I thought the point of a real estate agent/broker was to bring the buyers or sell for the sellers - do you still need them if you have both angles covered?
