I am still working full-time and working on my business. I love the idea of being my own boss someday. A plus to working full-time right now is I can invest in my business by taking courses geared to the always changing world of technology and social media. This will help me to offer services that I never thought possible.

What do you love the most about working for yourself?

I love that I can focus all my efforts on achieving my ultimate goal: Quality of Life.

To me, quality of life encompasses so many things:
  • Finding a healthy work/life balance
  • Helping others achieve success
  • Creating a happy work environment
  • No commutes, ever again
  • Regularly learning something new
  • Being responsible for my own destiny
  • Pushing myself outside my comfort zone so I can grow
  • Learning from my mistakes
  • Having the power to change what isn't working
  • Getting to know and work with incredible people who inspire and amaze me
  • Creating something from scratch and knowing that I made it happen
  • Feeling fulfilled and accomplished
Thanks to all the established VAs on this forum who paved the way for the rest of us and inspired me to take the leap and start my own VA business. Deciding to work for myself was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
There are so many benefits when you work from home, my top 3 have to be:

- Less stress (my health has improved since starting my own business)
- Flexibility (I can set my own working hours, if I want to have the morning off I can!)
- Save money (I don't spend money on vending machines, lunches, bus fare or impulse buys on the way home from work)

What do I love most? It's the sense of satisfaction that you get from doing something you love, the knowledge that you are a part of the building process in someones journey to fulfil their dreams, it's hearing my son say how much he loves that not only do I work but I pick him up and drop him off at school rain or shine, it's talking to my clients and knowing that they are pleased with the service I provide but most of all its knowing that I am creating my own fortune, not in the financial sense but emotionally now I am incredibly wealthy.

Thanks for a wonderful opportunity!

Well, sort of still in start-up mode (if you can call 5 years 'start-up'). :D

I'm looking forward to the freedom of a) not having to work with/for IDIOTS!, b) the chance to be semi-retired and still have income, c) being able to travel and work at the same time and d) the flexibility to 'just say no' to projects I don't want to do.

There are so many great things but here's a few:

I love the fact that no day is ever the same.
I love that fact that I only take on the projects I want to take on.
I love the flexibility, freedom, variety and that it gives me the time to continue grow
I love the calibre of my clients - they truly make each day a pleasure!

And, that it's all done in my favourite slippers certainly doesn't hurt either!
What I love the most about working for myself is the limitless opportunity I have for both myself and my business. There is no glass ceiling when you work for yourself! There is no one breathing down my neck with impossible deadlines, no office politics or butt kissing, and the only stress I have is what I create for myself. Of course there are challenges, but I make the decisions now and don’t have to ask permission for anything. Life is good!
My favorite part of working for myself is that I choose how I spend my time. I structure my day so that I am available when my kids get home from school, and I can still attend their events - without having to ask anyone for time off!

I love working at home, having a comfortable chair, quiet time and my beloved cat for company.
Time freedom.
Flexibility to work with clients and projects I choose to do.
Ability to acquire new skills.
Can choose to work during a time that fits around the people and activities in my life.
Love being able to help other business owners who are also struggling to manage their business, family and life.
Administrative work is the backbone of any business and I feel honored to help others create an income for themselves and their family.
No limitations.
No politics.
Can give myself a raise whenever I want to!

Anyone in a corporate job will tell you that the biggest perk to working at home is getting to wear your pajamas all day. Although that reason may seem silly to some, it points to a bigger issue: that being able to be yourself is important. For me, I have health issues that bother me most in the mornings. Having to be at work at 8 a.m. is extremely challenging. Working for myself in my home has been the greatest gift to myself. I can set my own schedule and begin work when I am physically able to start. I cannot find that kind of flexibility in a corporate environment. I may not be the healthiest person on the planet, but I am who I am. Being my own boss lets me be me.

As Steve Job's said "Find your true passion and do what you love to do."

That's exactly what I'm doing with my virtual business.

Freedom and controlling my own destiny. This has always been my focus and now more than ever. I love that I can set my own schedule, rearrange my schedule based on my family needs and travel time. More than anything I love that I decide who I want to work with as my ideal client and work that I do.

I’ve always wanted my own business. I think it started as a child, when my mother would greet me at the door; after I walked home from school, lead me to the dining table where there would be soup, sandwich or a snack waiting. Just knowing she was always there, made me feel ‘safe’. Prior to owning my ‘main business’, I went back to school to get my BS in Global Marketing as added assurance to understand business growth patterns. When I first started working for myself, I thought the reason I wanted it so bad, was to have something outside of corporate politics. Then I had a family, and it was about having more time to be with them. Suddenly, my mother was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer, apparently the dormant breast cancer (after 10 years) resurfaced with a vengeance. I soon realized that there will always be ‘something’ that comes about unplanned, and that the most important thing about having my own business, is to be able to give back to the many people who have helped me in my path; and to those who need and want the same autonomy (for whatever reason). I meet new people both through my business and personal life every day. Everyone has something that either I, or someone I know, can learn from or use. I might be able to pass on ‘some tid bit of info’ to another. So, the most important part about having my own business is being able "to give back". Give back knowledge, resources, time, love, to the community and my family. As a business owner, we are jugglers. To call it multi-tasking would limit and degrade our passion, intelligence and drive. We juggle time for family, friends, political views, personal beliefs, and most of all our work. Even then, many of us are working more than one small business to make ends meet and the entrepreneurial mind motivated. If I have given something back to one person every day, only then, will being a business owner truly be worth the effort it took to get here.

The best part about working for myself is the ability to help business owners grow and move forward. And since I'm doing this on my own terms it means I can work with truly professional individuals who have a real desire to grow and move forward instead of any person that comes through the door because its "my job".

It's fully rewarding, give me freedom, and allows me to connect and help others who are accomplishing so much in the world!

The thing I love most is being able to set my own schedule. I have five kids with three in school and two in diapers. Between doctor appointments and school activities, I would have to either miss a lot of work or miss my children's activities if I worked a regular job. But working for myself enables me to earn a decent living and attend every conference, game, play, and concert. I get the best of both worlds!
